Liza Mendelson

World Day for Health and Safety takes place on April 28. The purpose of the awareness day is to promote decent, safe and healthy work in the workplace environment. We explore the positive safety expectation and health culture.

This awareness day is part of the centenary anniversary of the U.N.’s International Labour Organization (ILO), which will “Launch a global report ... sharing the story of a 100 years in saving lives and promoting safe and healthy working environments.”

The Importance of Occupational Safety and Health

Every year the occurrence of occupational accidents and diseases, including work-related stress, increases. Some 430 million people may be affected each year, and around 2 million people lose their lives every year due to accidents and diseases linked directly to their work.

While workplace dangers certainly warrant our attention:

  • What about expecting the unexpected, such as an employee experiencing a cardiac arrest outside the hospital?
  • Is your workplace fully prepared for an incident that requires CPR or even a defibrillator?

Employee Safety Comes First

A company’s greatest asset is undoubtedly its employees. This is why employers need to do everything in their power to create a happy and safe working environment.
